What Is Botox and How Does It Work? Our Richmond Hill Practitioners Explain
Botox is a type of injection used to relax the muscles in your face. It works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles, which helps prevent them from contracting. This makes the wrinkles in your face, like those frown lines or crow’s feet, smooth out and soften.
Now, you might be thinking, “Does it hurt?” It’s totally minimal, kind of like a little pinch. Most people actually don’t mind it, and it’s super quick, usually just a few minutes.
At our Richmond Hill clinic near you, we take your comfort seriously. You’re in good hands with our team of qualified specialists. They’ve got the training and experience to make sure Botox is done safely and effectively.

Before & After
Are You a Good Candidate For Botox?
How do wrinkles show up? Well, they’re mostly from the facial expressions we make every day, like frowning, squinting, or raising our brows. These little movements create lines in the same spots over time, and that’s how those “dynamic wrinkles” pop up.
We have tons of people from Mississauga coming to us wanting to smooth things out, but not everyone needs Botox just yet. That’s why at our clinic, we take a personal approach to figure out the perfect time for you. We want your results to look natural, not overdone!
The most common areas we treat are frown wrinkles (those lines between your eyebrows when you frown or concentrate.
We have patients whom we have injected Botox in these areas:
- Forehead lines (from raising your brows)
- Crow’s feet (those lines around your eyes)
- Bunny lines (on your nose)
- Lip lines and corners of the mouth
- Chin dimples and jawline slimming
- Neck bands
- Excessive sweating (yep, it helps with that!)
- Migraines (who knew, right?)
What Happens During Your Botox Appointment At Richmond Hill Clinic?
Step 1
Once you arrive at our Richmond Hill clinic near you, our licensed practitioners will examine your skin, concerns, and where you want to receive Botox. After the consultation, we will understand how many units you need.
Step 2
Our practitioner will cleanse your skin if you have makeup or any creams on your face. If you do not want to feel any discomfort, our professional may offer you a numbing cream or ice packs.
Step 3
After cleaning your skin, the specialist will begin injecting Botox into the target area; typically, up to five injections are required per site. The procedure will take about 15-30 minutes.
Step 4
After the procedure, our professional will give you aftercare tips so you will know how to care for the area. You will notice the full results of Botox within two weeks, and the results will begin to show within a few days.

Stop taking blood-thinning medications and avoid alcohol for a few days.

Pause strong skincare (retinol, acids) 24–48 hours beforehand.
Botox Aftercare
Don’t touch, rub, or massage the treated areas.
Skip strenuous exercise and heavy sweating for the next few days.
Avoid makeup, creams, or oils on the skin for at least 24 hours.
Avoid makeup, creams, or oils on the skin for at least 24 hours.
How Long Does Botox Last?
Most of our clients begin to see results within 3-16 days, depending on how their body responds and how often they have had Botox injections.
If you have had Botox injections before, you may see results a little faster, usually around 5-8 days, as your body is already familiar with the botulinum toxin. But if you get Botox for the first time, it may take 4-16 days to see the full effects. Just be patient; this is entirely normal.
As you may already know, Botox is not permanent and requires regular treatments to maintain the full effects. After your treatment, our licensed practitioner will let you know when to come back for your next appointment based on your personal treatment plan.
Why is Botox So Popular Among People?
It’s a quick fix that actually works
Let’s be real, who doesn’t love something that works fast? Botox softens those frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet without needing surgery or downtime.
You don’t have to go full Hollywood
A lot of people think Botox = frozen face, but that’s not true when it’s done right. You can still smile, laugh, and express yourself, just without the deep lines. Most people just look like a more rested version of themselves.
It’s not just about looks
This one surprises a lot of people, but Botox isn’t only for wrinkles. It’s used for migraines, teeth grinding, jaw tension, and even excessive sweating. So it’s doing more than just making you look good, it can make you feel better, too.
Who Should Not Get Botox?
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we recommend waiting a little bit to be on the safe side. It is important to put your health and the health of your baby first.
- If you have ALS, myasthenia gravis, or other nerve or muscle disorders, you may not be recommended to have Botox injections. It is important to consult with your doctor before getting Botox injections.
- Botox is not approved for use by anyone under 18. Even if you are curious or have seen others do it, it is worth waiting a little bit.
- This is pretty obvious, but it is worth saying: if you have a history of allergies to Botox, it is best to skip it. Other treatments may be better for you.
- If your skin is irritated, damaged, or infected where the Botox is injected, you will need to wait until it heals. Injecting into irritated skin can lead to even bigger problems.
